Is music dead ?

I should have known better..
I quite liked Rouge Traders Voodoo Child – the guitar was pretty cool and it was a simple riff to play, throw in the wah-wah pedal and it sounds even better. I thought to myself, isn’t it great in this day and age to come up with a catchy song with a simple riff – it gave me hope that perhaps I could come up with a simple 4 chord song that would change the world :) However this hope didn’t last long. I was listening to an obscure Elvis Costello album (‘This Years Model’ 1978) early this week and ‘Pump it up’ came on with the same catchy riff.. I was gutted. I should have known better. Perhaps all the good music is in the past and everything today is just a rehash. The “new” stuff may sound good to us but some artist has already done it before – we just haven’t heard it.

  1. its the complete lack of local bands and talent thats the cause of all the problems in the music industry.

  2. Rogue Traders do admit to “sampling” Costello’s “pump it up” – he does get the credit and I assume some royalties. I haven’t actually heard the song – sound anything like Hendrix’s song of the same name?
