sunshine
In my previous post I complained we didn’t get any sun in summertime.. To fix this problem I flew to Malaga. Malaga has loads of sun and I’m talking to the Mayor to see if he will loan us some sunshine! Currently it’s 38 C ! they have loads to spare..
the mayor has red hair and talks funny.
more to follow.

A solstice occurs twice a year, whenever Earth’s axis tilts the most toward or away from the Sun, causing the Sun to be farthest north or south at noon. In Ireland the summer solstice happens on the 21st of June, the winter solstice is the 22nd of December. The name is derived from Latin sol (sun) and sistere (to stand still), because at the solstice, the Sun stands still in declination, that is, its movement north or south is minimal.
the period around the June solstice is known as midsummer, and Midsummer’s Day is the 24th of June, three days after the solstice itself.. I wish we had some resemblance of summer.
slugs and tomato
However, Stick them together in a network and they start to work together. No need for slug tots.
- Take one Linksys NSLU2 and unslung it. You can pick one up on Ebay for 50 yoyos. The process is painless and no slugs get hurt.
- Add one Linksys WRT54G(L) and stick tomato on it.
now you have an ultra reliable network that can share all your music, videos, photos etc. and be able to access them from home and abroad! Some of the routers have been running over a year without a reboot! Tomato even allows the wrt54gl to enable a QoS like service! wooot ! I might stick up a how to later.

I’ve had some issues with eps and compiling LaTeX documents over the past while. Every time I’d compile my tex document, dvips or gs seem to take forever. Also eps thumbnails were slow to show up in nautilus. I monitored what was going on and I found that gs was leaking memory and eating all available resources. chomp chomp chomp == very slow machine.
But here is a fix!
sudo apt-get install gs-gpl
which is an alternative gs package
sudo update-alternatives –set gs /usr/bin/gs-gpl
apparently this is resolved in 7.10 and a back port is being prepared for Feisty.

has everyone stopped blogging?
new posts are far and few between, if only we had a new blogger, someone far away.. someone say in either Denmark,Finland, Sweden.. or somewhere around there! I’m sure they have interesting stories to tell, pictures to show etc..
anyway – soccer season is well under way. We got our new kit (jersey, socks and shorts) and they are really cool! The first game was a cup and we got knocked out to stoopid goal. The second game was in the league and it was looking like ending in defeat at 0-2, but we started to play and got a goal back, and then another and then we sneaked another at the final whistle to make it 3-2 and get 3 points on the board. We are back in action again Thursday night against adhesive research.. it could be a sticky fixture!
I’m also playing in another league in Castletroy college (it’s 6 aside on AstroTurf). It’s a random bunch of people bur we won 3-2 last week so how bad! no jerseys but it’s still fun.
I feel a change is coming to my website and blog. I am growing tired of having to edit the site between 8am and 6pm and only from UL. Stuff gets out of date so quickly. I think the world of open source wiki’s will be investigated and researched. Anyone have any experience with them?
