I remember watching Brainiac and there was an episode where Mr John Tickle walks across a swimming pool full of custard. As long as he stayed moving he could walk across the entire pool easily. Once he stopped he began to sink. I started to think to myself, if you could use that property of custard and make it more gel like you would be on to a winner. My thoughts never went beyond this.
These guys have. The stuff d3o is amazing. Basically it’s a material that is pliable in your hand but as soon as a sudden impact occurs all the molecules lock together to provide super shock absorbency. It’s a non-Newtonian substance, i.e. it’s a liquid and a solid at the sametime. It has so many uses for everyday things . The following clip from SKY is hilarious!
