After months of waiting last night at 1.42am I got my Google voice invitation. Clicked on the link.. got whisked away to the Google Voice page, logged in only to find…
Darn it !
Times are changing.. Once upon a time Google used to do something for everyone.. now they are being selective. Once upon a time Google would have a big announcement for a new service (Gmail, calendar, gtalk, Earth, maps etc.) and the next day you had it! Now Google announces things like ‘Wave’ and Chrome OS which are “coming soon”. I want the old Google back !
Sad really. But there are several things that emerged in US only, and then moved to cover the rest of the world. I guess in UK, it’s a matter of time. I wish that for you. I think such things just take a lot of legal issues to clear first.
In Kuwait however, the Government has strict regulations and they make you sign paper not to use your internet for VoIP purposes! Pretty stupid!
Man, you can take a tour to Belfast or even Co.Tyrone and find a netbar, I tried mine in Co.Tyrone and it’s woking. However you need some tricks to activate the PIN.
@joseph – that’s cool! I’m heading to the UK next week and will give it a try – what are the ‘tricks’ I need to do ?
It’s totally understandable it only works in the US. They give you a phone number (of US), and I think there renting a telephone number is cheaper than in the rest of the world. That is the reason because Google can’t offer the service outside US at the moment.
Anyway, I’m sure they are looking forward to getting numbers outside US to give the service to everybody.
